“I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is all right with me
Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you”
— Al Green, Let’s Stay Together
There's something about Jordan and Eric that reminds me of certain couples I used to know back in college, young people so wildly and freely in love there was an undeniable magic to just being near them, no matter how well you knew them. You'd be out at a party or a bar, and despite being in a room crowded with chaos and strangers, something about the way they were with one another seemed to quiet the air a little bit — like you can tell they're the only ones in the room for each other. Maybe its just the hopeless romantic in me (and it feels a little strange to say), but it always made me feel invisible in a good kind of way — that it was nice to be tangential, even just momentarily, to two people who could transform the space around them with their feelings for one another. A love like that inspires by virtue of simply being nearby.
I was reminded of that kind of young love when we shot Jordan and Eric’s wedding. Their wedding day was a day replete with fun, endless laughter, and a hell of a dance party, but throughout it all there was the clear line of their unending devotion to one another stringing all of the moments of the day together with a kind of absolute calm clarity.
Jordan and Eric met in college, and had already celebrated ten years of being together before tying the knot. It was a beautiful day for a wedding at Twin Ponds; after a beautiful and emotional First Look, there was a brief threat of rain right before the ceremony, but it cleared right up, and surrounded by friends, family (and a glorious flower garden to boot!) the happy couple vowed their eternal love to one another. We took a jaunt around the golf course for a few wedding party shots and creative romantic portraits with the newly-wedded lovebirds. Later they kicked off the dancing with their First Dance to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” and I think its pretty safe to say anyone who knows them is certain they absolutely will.
Here’s to many years of love and laughter; we’re wishing you all the best as you continue on life’s journey together.
“I can't wait to start this new chapter together, and promise to always be your number one supporter, confidant, and partner in life as we navigate through forever together. “
“Eric, you are truly lucky to have Jordan in your life. She is one of a kind, and she will understand and know you better than anyone in this world, including yourself at times… she will be your strongest backbone and biggest supporter — However, given that you’re already ten years in she knows too much already, so it will come at the cost of un-sugarcoated advice, but it will always be from the heart.
So good luck, because I know there isn’t a better person in this world to go through this life with than Jordan.”
“I met Jordan on the first day of school at Johnson & Wales... Looking back at it, I don’t think anyone had a better first week of school than Jordan: she met one of her best friends and the love of her life as well. Meanwhile I’m still trying to figure out how to swipe into the dining hall…
For any couple to last through college, especially with Tequila Thursdays involved, multiple cities, jobs, and a puppy — and still come out stronger is a major accomplishment.
“I’ve seen firsthand what your love truly means to each other, and I have no doubt in my mind that you guys are meant to be.”
“Eric chooses a priority, and follows through on it. I think that’s part of why we are all here today, one decade after Eric and Jordan first met. Despite all of the noise from competing issued — like a vehicle with questionable road-worthiness, or finding a new place to live, or accepting that outstanding job offer — despite all of these things, Eric has chosen to prioritize his relationship with Jordan, and ultimately this wedding. Over the past year I've heard him recite his list of priorities to me like he was reading me the Riot Act.
No matter what, Jordan and this wedding remained at the top of the list.”
